The oldest, dating from the 12th century, was probably one of the first stone-built churches in Visby. St Clemens ruin – a magical place. During the Middle Ages there were at least 16 churches in Visby. Only one of these, St. Mary’s Cathedral, is still in use and 13 others are left in ruins. The ruin of St. Clemens is one of the largest and best preserved. Once you step in through the portal it feels as though time is standing still.
